According to the call record on my mobile I called 164 times one morning to get an appointment but still couldn't get through. Extremely frustrating spending 40 minutes calling whilst trying to care for 2 very poorly toddlers and still not getting anywhere. When I have been able to get an appointment I have found the GPs themselves friendly and good at their jobs, but the reception staff are always unfriendly and unwelcoming. I have registered elsewhere and have found the other surgery busy but friendly and accommodating.

Absolutely appalling place. So much for "friendly staff" pah! I had to take my sister to the minor injuries unit with a suspected broken foot, I was in a panic and didn't realise that the section of car park I entered belonged to the health centre. I was gone for no more than 15 minutes as I dropped her off, went in to the health centre to explain and was told that those spaces were for the patients etc etc - currently 3 people sat in the waiting room and lots of empty spaces outside. Was told to pay £25 to get out of the car park!! I went out and a lovely lady gave us a spare token she had and she said how awful the staff were, that they are always nasty like that. Doesn't surprise me! Practice Manager (can think of something else I'd like to call her) came out when I was strapping my daughter into her car seat and she stood by the barrier - she asked where I got the token and told me to give it to her. I had a nasty feeling she was going to try and take it off me, so my mum took it and got out of the car to put it in the machine. Made me feel extremely glad that we don't have to be seen as patients there! Awful atmosphere, awful staff. Hopefully the doctors are better but wouldn't want to be there to find out.

Just visited with elderly stroke victim who can’t drive. She’d forgotten to submit her need for a repeat prescription in time and had run out. She’d done this twice before. They told her they couldn’t help her this time (2strikes and you’re out!) and she’d have to come back at another time. She can’t. I spoke to the manager with a view to finding a way to get her drugs today - she stuck to the system apparently having no discretion other to ‘enforce’ the rules saying ‘it’s up to the patient - she has to get her request in in time’. Eventually she suggested she could get it done by 2pm - as if that made a difference to this elderly patient. She still can’t get back even at 2pm! This rigid inflexibility demonstrated a huge dependency on managerial command control processes to ‘help’ a vulnerable patient. Appalling. Why do we rely on abusing the vulnerable to run our institutions?! This lady left the surgery at risk of harm, without drugs til their single Friday delivery brings them to her. Room for improvement? YES. Suggestion. Automatic repeat prescriptions until doctor changes it. Change to facilitative management focussed in the need not the management of resources.
